Shanghai Port has set a new record for bonded liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering volume, as French‑flagged dual‑fuel container vessel CMA CGM Montmartre took on 16,449.7 cubic meters of fuel during a 21-hour ship-to-ship simultaneous operation on June 26.
As foreign trade continues to gain momentum, demand for cargo capacity on long-haul shipping routes is rising in tandem. The CMA CGM Montmartre called at Yangshan Port to load 8,733 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and discharge 1,341 TEUs. The substantial cargo volume increased the vessel's fuel requirements, making a full LNG bunkering stop both operationally and commercially advantageous.
Supported by a reliable LNG supply, stable fuel pricing and highly efficient bunkering services, Shanghai Port provided an ideal location for the vessel to replenish fuel. The volume bunkered during the call is sufficient to support a complete round voyage between Asia and Europe.
As more vessels adopt LNG and methanol as marine fuels, demand for ship-to-ship bunkering services has grown significantly. Since the start of the year, Yangshan Port has handled more than 60 LNG bunkering operations, up 10.8 percent from the same period in 2025.
