The Norway-China Green Transition & Maritime Forum 2026, a side event of Shanghai Climate Week, convened in Shanghai on April 24.
Co-organized by the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, Innovation Norway, and the Norwegian Business Association China, the forum prioritized the maritime sector's green transition, aiming to catalyze dialogue and bolster bilateral cooperation on climate action.
Tobias F. Svenningsen, consul general of Norway in Shanghai, said at the forum: "Our two governments pledged to facilitate contacts and cooperation aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving and restoring biodiversity, and creating new green industries and jobs."
Ulrik Hoksnes Karlsen, a board member of the Norwegian Business Association China, said: "The global green transition depends on China's manufacturing and supply chain to make it happen."
The event featured presentations from companies such as DNV, Borregaard, Nordic Aqua, Ulstein, Hoegh Autoliners, Wilhelmsen, and Wrleading Group AS, showcasing green solutions and innovations.
Karlsen noted: "Shanghai has implemented policies and initiatives that have created a consumer culture and supply chain ecosystems geared towards the green transition."
"Shanghai has been supportive of the EV industry, becoming the home for brands like NIO and Tesla's China operations," Karlsen said. "Within shipping, Shanghai has developed international green corridors, promoting alternative fuels and greener vessels."
Svenningsen added that Norwegian interest in the upcoming China International Import Expo remains high. A Norwegian national pavilion is expected to provide a more streamlined entry point for businesses seeking to establish a foothold in the Chinese market.
