Shanghai's Yangshan Port has set a new national record by completing the country's largest ship-to-ship refueling of home-made green methanol on March 5-6.
The operation was executed by Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, China's first and one of the world's largest methanol bunkering vessels. Operated by Shanggang Group Energy (Shanghai) Co Ltd, the bunkering vessel refueled 3,643 tons of green methanol to the CMA CGM Osmium, a container ship owned by French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM.
This milestone sets a new record for a single methanol bunkering volume at a Chinese port and marks CMA CGM Group's first global green methanol refueling order.
The operation demonstrates that Shanghai Port has established a complete methanol supply system covering production, transport, storage and bunkering.
Through the simultaneous bunkering and cargo handling model, Shanghai Port completed the loading and unloading of 4,208 natural boxes (actual container units, as opposed to TEU) during the refueling, significantly reducing the vessel's idle berthing time and boosting operational efficiency.
According to the Shanggang Group Energy, this achievement further strengthens Shanghai Port's role as a hub in the global green shipping network.
