Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone, a benchmark area in terms of opening-up and business-friendly climate, has been running smoothly since its pilot launch.

The business cooperation zone started pilot operations under closed management on Dec 28. As of the end of January, Shanghai Customs had overseen 36,000 personnel entries and exits related to international exhibitions, business exchanges, and training programs in the zone, along with 2,389 batches of goods.

Featuring a high level of international openness, the cooperation zone allows invited individuals from all countries with valid invitations to enter without visas or other entry permits. They may stay for up to 30 days per entry.

The zone allows free flow of goods and people thanks to streamlined customs clearance and smart regulatory tools, including pre-arrival machine inspections and one-stop clearance.

International visitors can enter the area with personal belongings after security and quarantine checks, while domestic personnel can expedite their exits by pre-registering item information. This management approach helps the zone integrate three major functions: international business exchanges, exhibitions, and training programs.

The head of the Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone Management Office at Shanghai Pudong International Airport Customs said that the authorities have established a coordination mechanism with the administrative bureau of the cooperation zone, immigration authorities, public security authorities, and on-site medical facilities to improve emergency response capabilities.

The zone hosted its first major international business event at the end of January.

On Jan 26, a group of 10 business travelers completed customs and quarantine via a dedicated channel at the Pudong airport and were transported directly to the business cooperation zone.

That same day, the zone processed 284 inbound passengers from overseas, marking the first peak in international arrivals since the trial operation began.
