Record investment planned for major projects in 2026

Shanghai plans to invest a record high 255 billion yuan ($36.9 billion) in major projects in 2026.

The plan covers 184 formal projects and 14 preparatory projects. Of these, 16 new projects are set to break ground, while 22 are scheduled for basic completion.

In 2025, the city invested 251.01 billion yuan in the construction of major projects, up 5.3 percent year-on-year.

Over the past year, construction began on 30 new projects, including the Songjiang campus of Yueyang Hospital, the Jiading campus of Shanghai University, the southern section of the Wusong River project, and the second phase of the container terminal upgrade at Luojing Port.

Meanwhile, 30 projects were basically completed, including the northern campus of Ruijin Hospital and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine campus in the Pudong New Area.

Flagship projects for the first quarter of this year include the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone and the fourth phase of Pudong International Airport.
