Shanghai ports have recorded robust passenger traffic during the New Year holiday.
From Jan 1 to 3, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection processed a total of 313,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips, a 4.7 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
More than 2,000 means of transport, including aircraft and vessels, were inspected, a figure roughly in line with that of the previous year.
Benefitting from China's visa waiver policies and optimized immigration measures, including the online completion of entry cards and dedicated inspection channels, the number of foreign nationals entering China via Shanghai reached 48,000 during the holiday, representing a year-on-year increase of 26.3 percent.
Nearly 70 percent of international visitors came for tourism purposes. Among them, more than 27,000 entered under visa-free arrangements or the 240-hour visa waiver transit policy, accounting for 56.2 percent of all foreign arrivals.
