Shanghai airports began operating under a new winter and spring flight schedule on Oct 26, with a 5 percent increase in international and regional flights year-on-year.

The new schedule, effective from Oct 26, 2025, to March 28, 2026, anticipates Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao international airports collectively handling 2,419 flights daily, with 766 of these serving international, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan destinations. Domestic flights are expected to average 1,653 each day.

Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport will increase flight frequencies to 30 destinations domestically, including major cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

The expansion includes the resumption of flights to New Delhi, India, starting Nov 9, and the launch of a new route to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Dec 4.

Increased flight frequencies are also planned for destinations such as Milan, London Gatwick, Barcelona, Osaka, and Hanoi.

China Eastern Airlines plans to operate the Shanghai Pudong-Auckland-Buenos Aires route from Dec 4. The airline anticipates it will be the world's longest non-stop flight.

The "southern route" via New Zealand is expected to reduce travel time to approximately 25 hours, compared to the previous 30 hours via Europe or North America.

To improve passenger experiences, Shanghai airports have a "Shanghai to the World, Seamless Transfers" program, offering services such as rest areas, shopping, and cultural experiences. There are 196 young volunteers assisting international travelers at arrival areas in both airports.

A Suzhou service center opened on Oct 25 in the arrival areas of Terminals 1 and 2 at Pudong Airport. The center provides return services to the Shanghai Airport Suzhou City Terminal, designed to enhance regional connectivity within the Yangtze River Delta.

Chinese civil aviation authorities adjust flight schedules in March and October every year. Travelers are advised to verify their flight details with airlines or airports directly.
