China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Li Lecheng vowed on Tuesday that the country will press ahead with new industrialization during the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), spearheading fresh frontiers such as humanoid robots, brain-computer interfaces, the metaverse and quantum information, while establishing pilot zones for future industries, Xinhua Finance reported.
Li made the remarks when addressing the inauguration of the 25th Session of the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) in Shanghai, further noting that during the coming 15th Five-Year Plan period, the MIIT will foster emerging and future industries by advancing innovation, scaling up development and building application scenarios, aiming to shape new growth drivers and pillar sectors, per the report.
The latest edition of the CIIF brings together 3,000 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions, including nearly 300 Fortune Global 500 and industry leaders and more than 700 specialized and sophisticated enterprises that produce new and unique products, and it showcases about 300 world debuts and 200 China premieres, CCTV News reported on Tuesday.
This year's CIIF highlights China's industrial digitalization and intelligence trends, with artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies deeply integrated into industrial scenarios, Wang Peng, an associate research fellow at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Tuesday, noting that industrial robots and high-end equipment are evolving toward heavier loads and more diverse forms to meet complex production needs in the domestic market.
Chinese robot producer Fourier is making the on-site public debut of its GR-3C humanoid robot - the latest model of its GR-3 series humanoid robots - at the CIIF, while also showcasing its new industrial technology solutions, according to a statement sent from the company to the Global Times on Tuesday.
The GR-3C builds on the standard model with a panoramic head display, enhanced casing, high-performance integrated actuators, and multi-degree-of-freedom dexterous hands. Its customizable configurations meet diverse real-world needs, with applications in interactive guided tours, research and education, eldercare, and production facilitation, said the statement.
Another highlight of Fourier's debut is its new industrial solution for the GRx humanoid robots. Built on the Fourier Orchestrated Control and Unification System, it integrates embodied intelligence to optimize "material box handling" and "material sorting," creating a fully autonomous operational system.
International robotics company ABB is introducing five industrial robots at the CIIF, showcasing application scenarios spanning automobile manufacturing to electronics to biomedicines, according to a company statement.
Notably, ABB's high-performance large robot IRB 6750S and IRB 920 robot are making their Chinese debuts at the expo. The IRB 6750S features a maximum payload of 350 kilograms, a path accuracy of 0.9 millimeters, and a repeatability of 0.06 millimeters. In addition, its robot lineup comprising of the Lite+ robot series and IRB 1200 robot was initially deployed to the Chinese market, in order to respond to the local market's advanced manufacturing capability, said the company.
Since its founding in 1999, the CIIF has grown with China's industrial sector into one of the world's largest, most comprehensive and influential industrial events, CCTV News reported.
From 2020 to 2024, China's manufacturing value-added rose from 26.6 trillion yuan ($3.69 trillion) to 33.6 trillion yuan, accounting for nearly 30 percent of the global total and contributing more than 30 percent to global manufacturing growth, Li said on September 9.
Wang stated that China's industrial intelligence is accelerating through technology integration, scenario specialization and ecosystem collaboration. "Supported by long-term funding, full-chain backing and policy coordination, fields like humanoid robots, brain-computer interfaces and quantum information are expected to achieve industrialization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period," he said.
