Shanghai has experienced a steady increase in the number of inbound and outbound passengers since the beginning of the year.
In the first half of this year, a total of 20.74 million inbound and outbound individuals and 147,000 vehicles were inspected, representing increases of nearly 22 percent and 15 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Among the inspected inbound travelers, international visitors accounted for 2.6 million, representing a 44.8 percent year-over-year increase. Over 1.4 million international travelers utilized visa-free and 240-hour transit visa policies to enter Shanghai, accounting for more than 54 percent of the total inbound overseas visitors, representing a 228 percent year-on-year growth.
To streamline port inspection processes, Shanghai's ports have introduced new customs clearance measures to ensure efficient operations for vessel entry and exit, as well as terminal activities. In the first half of this year, Shanghai immigration authorities inspected a total of 22,000 inbound and outbound international shipping vessels, marking a 3.1 percent year-over-year increase.
Multiple domestic and international airlines also increased their operational capacity, including the resumption of the Shanghai to Los Angeles direct flight route and the addition of new European routes, such as Shanghai Pudong to Geneva and Milan.
This continued expansion of Shanghai's international routes is providing strong momentum for global personnel exchanges.
