2024 “Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future” Overseas Promotion Campaign (Barcelona, Spain)
On May 10, Hua Yuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Shanghai, led a Shanghai delegation on a visit to Spain. During the visit, the delegation met with Jordi Valls, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona, Hu Aimin, Acting Consul General of China in Barcelona, Du Juan, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, and Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Labor of Catalonia. They also attended the “Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future” Overseas Promotion Campaign held in Barcelona, where Hua delivered a keynote speech, highlighting Shanghai’s appeal and opportunities, emphasizing the friendship between the two regions, and promoting cooperation for mutual growth. The event was chaired by Luo Zhisong, Chief Economist of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
Shanghai has served as an important bridge for friendly cooperation between China and Spain. Last year, the total bilateral trade volume between Shanghai and Spain reached RMB 47.4 billion. In his speech, Hua Yuan stressed that Shanghai is advancing high-standard reform and opening up and promoting high-quality development in line with the new positioning and requirements set forth by President Xi Jinping. Shanghai will continue to lead the nation in reform and opening-up, act as a pioneer in innovation, accelerate its development into a modern socialist international metropolis with global influence, and play a leading and exemplary role in advancing Chinese modernization. The city will host the “Shanghai Summer” international consumption season, during which a range of high-quality, high-traffic, and high-profile events, such as concerts, music festivals, cultural performances, art exhibitions, and sporting events, will take place, offering diverse urban consumption experiences for both domestic and international visitors. Shanghai will also continue its efforts to create a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized while delivering targeted, convenient, and quality services to create more market and growth opportunities for businesses.
During the event, several cooperation projects were signed on-site. These included a strategic cooperation agreement between Bright Food’s ALBO and Hermasa Canning Technology S.A., a memorandum of long-term strategic cooperation between Shanghai Hema Network Technology Co., Ltd. and Borges Branded Foods, S.L., a letter of intent on cooperation between Shanghai International Port Group and the Barcelona Port Authority, and a memorandum of cooperation between Shanghai E&P International Inc. and CONEX SAS on EU customs declaration services.
The “Invest in Shanghai, Share the Future” Overseas Promotion Campaign is an overseas promotional event series organized by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, designed to highlight Shanghai as a prime destination for international businesses and talent and reinforce the city’s commitment to further openness and development by engaging with local communities abroad. The Barcelona edition of this series, hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and organized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Invest Shanghai, attracted significant attention from both domestic and international companies, with nearly 200 businesses participating and generating enthusiastic responses.
