Shanghai inaugurates innovation center on synthetic biology

The Shanghai Synthetic Biology Innovation Center, a cutting-edge research and development institution specializing in synthetic biology, was officially inaugurated during the Shanghai Synthetic Biology Innovation Summit held at the Shanghai Zhangjiang Science Hall on April 14.

Established in November 2023, the center is dedicated to establishing a global talent network, fostering technological collaborations, conducting concept verification, and facilitating technology transformation within the realm of synthetic biology, as highlighted by Jin Qinxian, the chairman of the center's strategic development committee.

Part of Shanghai's ambitious initiative to expedite synthetic biology innovation and create a high-end bio-manufacturing industry cluster by 2025, the innovation center is poised to propel Shanghai’s advancement in the domains of life sciences and biomedicine, as stated by the center's director, Li Jizong.

Notably, the event witnessed the forging of strategic cooperation agreements between the Shanghai Synthetic Biology Innovation Center and several prominent domestic and foreign institutions.
